Welcome to Eliot Arts

My name is G.Eliot and this is a virtual space in which I have the opportunity to share my finished, sculpture and clay pieces. My background is pretty varied, having come from a professional history in public relations, insurance, advertising and human resources (with a smattering of some retail and food service thrown in for good measure). I've also worked as a substitute teacher at various points and even worked as an antenna assembler once upon a time.

In some form or other, I have always found ways to bring creativity into life. Whether it was refinishing furniture, remodeling houses, helping individuals with resume design/layout, creating brochures, or making clothing, I have a need to make - or make better - things that cross my path.

When I decided to pursue an artistic career full-time, I wanted an education to help support and expand the ideas always swimming in my head. My fine art degree completion was a huge, life-long accomplishment. That degree was centered around painting, and I pursued that media for several years; however, since 2016, my work has primarily focused on shaping and creating with clay. I have found so much joy in the creation of three-dimensional objects that I rarely find myself in front of a canvas.

The tactile nature of clay is very appealing to me. Everything I make is a hand-built object (I don’t throw on wheels). The imperfections and small details are the particulars I like to sink into most. My painting background can be helpful when it comes to the glazing process, too (or sometimes a hindrance, depending on ones point of view, since paint and glaze behave differently). I enjoy making objects that have whimsical or comedic aspects and generally prefer pieces on the colorful side of the spectrum. There are both non-functional and/or decorative sculptures, as well as functional, intended-to-be-used pieces found in my body of work. Sculpture pieces range in size but are generally on the smaller side, between 5 and 20 inches in height. For functional work, the size varies as is appropriate for the item.

On a personal level, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Golden Retrievers, riding bicycles (we even ride a tandem frequently), walking/hiking, working out, attempting to grow a vegetable garden, domestically traveling when time permits, occasionally getting in a book, and of course, planning my next clay works.

If you have interest in seeing any work in person, you can follow me on Instagram, where I do my best to update about upcoming events and/or open studio time. You can also message me to be added to my email list or to ask any questions... or simply add your email address to my “Subscribe” section.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you find something in the gallery that brings a smile to your face.
